  • INDIRECT CHARACTERIZATION Indirect characterization is when the reader learns about the attributes of a character through their speech, actions, reactions from other characters, and appearance. The reader draws inferences about the character's personality based on this information.
  • I froze as the spider descended onto my desk. I tried to stifle a scream, but only a gasping croak escaped. I felt the sweat beading down my forehead, and I stopped breathing. Finally, as the spider began to crawl towards me, I knew I couldn't take it anymore. I jumped out of my seat and ran from the classroom.
  • HA HA HA! Molly's afraid of a little spider!
